最強Appeal申訴攻略

如果處分的背后另有隱情或你認為處罰不公正,學生亦可以通過申訴信進行申訴。一般情況下處于下列情況的學生,可以選擇申訴:

  -由于非主觀原因受到學術處分的學生

  -受到學術處分,但認為處罰過重,希望減輕處分的學生

  -希望消除不良記錄,順利拿到畢業證書的學生

1.國外高校常見學術懲罰結果

01.警告(disciplinary warning):通過口頭或者字條通知學生,他們的行為不符合大學的行為準則,如果再次出現就會面臨更嚴厲的懲罰。

02.留校察看(disciplinary probation):用書面通知告知學生已經觸犯了大學的規定,如果再犯將面臨嚴厲的懲罰。但允許學生繼續在學就讀,但一旦觸犯學校政策將被開除。一般由學校的委員會決定時間和長度,適用于初犯者。

03.停學(suspension):通過書面告知學生,因為他們觸犯了學校的規定,所以他們的在學權利被停止一段時間,這項處罰包括了停止的時間長度。停學后,會有readmission機會。

04.開除(dismissal):通過書面通知告知學生,其在校學習的權利被凍結。和停學相似,不可以在學校學習,但比停學程度嚴重,將來一定時間后,同樣會有readmission機會。

05.永久性開除(expulsion):通過書面通知告知學生,其在校學習的權利被永久凍結。

2.Appeal遞交時間

如果想要延期考試/遞交論文,請同學務必在考前或者考后7天內遞交,一般這個階段遞交的申請也是最容易成功的。

如果是由于抄襲或者作弊等問題,學術不端情況被調查中,學校會具體發郵件通知,也會在郵件中注明提交材料或者聽證會的時間點。

如果考試結束后,已經出成績,掛科后可以在成績出來后,10-20天內遞交。

由于具體的每個學校有自己規定的時間期限,如果有Appeal申訴打算的同學,一定要注意時間限制!

3.Appeal郵件

寫郵件的態度一定要謙虛誠懇,在郵件里可以先說明自己認為這次的論文或是考試成績和預期出入很大/十分不理想,并說明可能的原因:

01.非客觀情況導致成績不理想

其實不是所有的成績都有Appeal的可能性:比如客觀題是黑白分明的,對的就是對的,錯的就是錯的,所以客觀題的成績就沒有Appeal的必要,畢竟判錯卷子的情況是很少的。

如果題目是簡答、論述或是論文,那么還是很有必要嘗試去Appeal的。這類情況下,同學們一定要嘗試和相關人士(大多是教授)爭取到Meeting的機會,面談可以大大增加成功的幾率。

02.客觀情況導致成績受影響

有些同學是由于客觀情況導致的成績不理想,首先一定要仔細研究學校的規定,弄清楚學校接受哪些Appeal的依據,并根據學校的規章制度收集好證據。

在Appeal過程中,需要很清楚的證明客觀情況:

   *如果是因為在考試期間身體不適導致影響發揮水平,需要提供醫生開具的合法證明;

   *如果是家庭私人原因,如親屬過世、父母離異等,需要提供律師函件或者民政部門證明,并且通過認證的機構翻譯以及公證;

   *如果不能及時提供證據,要盡早向學校說明原因并且在之后補交。

一定要在Appeal Letter中有邏輯地證明:這些客觀情況是如何影響你的成績的,一定要有清晰、嚴密的邏輯,以理服人。

4.Appeal Letter

申訴信的內容非常重要,大家一定要謹慎書寫。

一封正式申訴信的內容通常需要涵蓋以下幾點:

  -自我介紹

  -闡明寫信目的

  -說明造成違規行為的原因

  -闡述背后主因

  -提出未來規劃

  -表明態度,請求并感謝學校

Dear Dean Smith and Members of the Scholastic Standards Committee:

I am writing to appeal my academic dismissal from Ivy University. I was not surprised, but very upset tc receive a letter earlier this week informing me of my dismissal. I'm writing with the hope that you will reinstate me for next semester. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to explain my circumstances. 

I admit I had a very difficult time last semester, and my grades suffered as a result. I don't mean to make excuses for my poor academic performance, but I would like to explain the circumstances. I knew that registering for 18 credit hours in the spring would require a lot of me, but I needed to earn the hours so that I was on track to graduate on time. I thought I could handld the workload, and I still think I could have, except that my father became very ill in February. While he was home sick and unable to work, I had to drive home every weeke nd and some week nights to help out with household duties and to care for my little sister. Needless to say, the hour-long drive each way cut into my study time, as did the chores I had to do at home. Even when I was at school, I was very distracted with the home situation and was unable to focus on my schoolwork. I understand now that I should have communicated with my professors (instead of avoiding them), or even taken a leave of absence. I thought I could handle all of these burdens, and I tried my best, but I was wrong. 

I love Ivy University, and it would mean so much to me to graduate with a degree from this school, which would make me the first person in my family to complete a college degree. If I am rein stated, I will focus much better on my schoolwork, take fewer hours, and man age my time more wisely. Fortunately, my father is recovering and has returned to work, so I should not need to travel home nearly as often. Also, I have met with my advisor, and I will follow her advice about communicating better with my professors from now on.

Please understand that my low GPA that led to my dismissal does not indicate that I am a bad student. Really, I'm a good student who had one very, very bad semester. I hope you will give me a second chanee. Thank you for considering this appeal.
